How good of a processor upgrade shall this be?

Currently using this and running alot of games on high settings. Able to run Splinter Cell Blacklist on Ultra actually:

Considering this:

I can just return my dual core to Amazon and get the quad core. I was low on money at the time I bought it and wanted my PC built soon.

Using a GTX 660 TI as well. So I'm assuming if I upgrade I'll be good for a while. Intel isn't an option, mobo doesn't support it.

I think a cheap 6 or 8 core amd will suit you better for gaming, giving the trend with AMD.

Looks good to me. I don't really see massive improvements on systems with more than 4 cores next gen. I realize PS4 will have more than that, but they're all gimped cores that can't compete with 4 powerful, unrestricted cores.

I would definitely get the 4 core if you are only paying the price difference. Since you are playing Splinter Cell, it seems you keep up on current games and current games are optimized for more threads. So much so that Battlefield 3 doesn't launch on single core processors and has gimped performance on dual cores. So I would definitely do it, although you don't have a ton of options because you obviously have an FM2 motherboard.

I don't mind it too much. In fact I can play Battlefield 3 on high with slight frame rate drop. So if I get this processor I'm pretty sure I'll be good for a while.

Will Amazon actually take it back if there's nothing wrong with it? if I recall, you can't return opened CPUs like that.

Many Bothans died to bring you this post.

Their return policy says he can:

Hits 1 but isn't listed on 2.

It's not a worthwhile upgrade. I'd suggest saving up and getting an Intel motherboard/cpu. With a dedicated GPU, even a low-end intel CPU will do better.

This is definitely true. If you can save up the money a low end i5 and one of the budget Intel boards would destroy that in pure CPU performance. Depends on your funds.

It wouldn't take an i5 to do that. i3 would be more than adequate.
