Is this a solid budget build?

I want to build a new computer for my family, who would only really use it for your average browsing and microsoft office tasks, with some light gaming tossed in there too. How does it hold up? Any suggestions? I already have a monitor.

Its alright, it will do the job but don't forget about the case.

Just make sure to play your games at the lowest settings possible, maybe the max resoultion you could do is 1024 768.

This isn't for me. I already have an i5 3570k and a GTX 580 :). This is just a good ole family computer.

Oh nvm, then its perfect for them. Also I would get 4GB RAM with 1600mhz instead. They really won't need more.

Integrated Graphics? Ram and L3 cache quality play a larger role.

You don't need much in a PC for using Programs or watching video.

Nah APU's are way better then that. With the right ram the 5800k can play 1080p games at low-medium settings 30fps NP and 720p medium-high 30-60fps easy.

I remember a demo on newegg using 2133 mhz ram and a GPU OC to 1ghz (using stock cooler) was playing Sleeping Dogs at medium preset @ 1080p at a constant 30-35fps.

As a family computer it will be absolutely fine. If you want better looking games I'd go with 1800mhz or higher ram, it has a big effect on smoothness of games on APU's. Still 1600mhz will be fine if you won't be doing much gaming. It will eat through movies and applications NP.

If your looking for a solidly built cheap case, check out the Bitfenix Merc beta/alpha. Has USB 3, black interior, manageable cable room and is a decent looking basic case with plenty of fan slots. I used one for my parents build and I got it for 30 bucks on sale. Cooler Master N200 is also a good new case if you are wanting to stay with micro ATX.

Only thing I'd change is the ram, two sticks of 1600-1866 will give a lot better performance if anyone is planning on gaming on it at all. If not don't worry about it, but the 1866 vengeance LP 2x4gb sticks were on sale for $55 not too long ago
