#1The_AntiGrimPosted 8/26/2013 12:54:15 PM
Looking to upgrade my PSU and was wondering what you guys think i should grab.

a10-5800k (stock clock)
660Ti
8GB RAM
500GB HDD (plan to add some TB drives)
Corsair CX 430W

Notes:
- Has to be modular
- I'm going to upgrade to an i5 probably before the end of the year and intend to OC it
- I might do SLI but that wont be till much further down the line, with the 700 or 800 series (when it releases)

you didn't specify a price range, so here you go

Should give you some room to grow, good quality, and doesn't break the bank.

1000w is unneeded for that system. In fact based on his system, I'd say for certainty that system won't even draw more then 400w from the wall at max. When he does upgrade, I'd say 650 will be reasonable considering GPUs and CPUs are getting even more energy efficient in terms of power usage and TDP.

Listen to Shub, he's like the resident PSU expert on this board, and if you don't, then go to JonnyGuru.com and read their reviews / ask on their forums.

As for recommended PSU Brands checkout Seasonic, PC Power&Cooling, XFX (these are rebranded Seasonic units), Antec (Some of their units are rebranded Seasonic PSUs), Corsair, Silverstone, and SOME Rosewill units (Hive, Fortress, and Capstone are notable for their quality, be cautious of other Rosewill models)

Avoid Diablotek, Raidmax, Powmax, etc, you only ask for trouble if you put one of these into your case.

Why is it that he can hit a 3rd baseman on a frozen rope from 300 feet away, but he can't hit a 12 foot tall catcher from 60 feet 6 inches away?

Well I run a 650w Corsair with my dual 660's. Even dual 780's probably don't need more than a 750w...

I'd rather not get another CX model. It works well enough, but there's a buzzing that goes on occasionally. Though it's stopped since i turned the PSU over to "Fan Up" position.

you're not supposed to do that; you're blowing hot air back into the case, onto your other components--probably your video card especially

also, a lot of PSUs end up having a buzzing sound like that. it's just a common problem, and it doesn't necessarily mean it's defective (although it might)

either way you should probably just get a seasonic. seasonic is the best brand

Sounds like a defective unit. Mine has been basically silent so far (fan facing down.)
