Looking for an ancient scifi PC shareware RPG (Stellar Explorer)

Hey all,

I'm looking for some ancient shareware game called 'Stellar Explorer'.

It was a DOS RPG where you were tasked with teleporting to some strange alien's massive ship and figuring out what was going on in there. (Some sort of espionage / political plot.)

Graphics were (maybe) VGA but abysmal, characters were just represented with circles. You equipped your dude with all kinds of ray guns, pistols, etc. and when you shot other bad guys you'd actually see the ray hit them, so that was something at least.

There was a bit of a plotline to it -- you could talk to NPCs, storyline was also disseminated by notes you found in lockers, etc. It was also brutally hard.

I bought this disk around the same time as stuff like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure, if that gives any helpful context.

I have also been participating in this thread where we're trying to hunt it down:
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about10062.html

This game is very hard to search for because there is another game of the exact same name on PC which was basically a port of one of the very early Star Trek simulation-based games on PDP/11 or something ancient like that. I have had 0 luck googling for it :/

Any pointers would be hugely appreciated!!

It doesn't appear on DOS sites apparently....

I give no endorsement to that site, I found it through Bing of all things. Download at your own peril. Or keep trying to find it yourself.

Yes!!! Vindication found it. Unfortunately the download link above is for the star-trek simulation knockoff I mentioned earlier, but thank you GreenMage :)

You can find screenshots of the game here also: http://www.uvlist.net/game-184851-Stellar%2BExplorer
