So my laptop cpu has a die that is the size of a pinky nail. How much thermal paste should I apply?

Why are you applying thermal paste to a laptop CPU?

Google your particular laptop's model. Perhaps someone else has removed the heatsink and reapplied thermal paste.

I have google'd it and followed someone, however my results are the same. I am thinking perhaps I have placed too much.

For something that size, I would think a BB shot-size glob of thermal paste would be more than adequate... but if you're having temperature problems -- I presume that's what the issue is -- then you should also check that the exhaust fan is not clogged with dust. That's a more common cause for bad temperatures than thermal paste.
