Because you occasionally get discount vouchers/free games for completing sets?
Show me proof anyone has gotten a free game out of completing a set... If you DO get a free game, it's likely going to be a game you have no interest in and unless you can trade that away, it's not worth very much... however I've never seen anyone get a game out of completing a badge and there's no documentation saying that you get free games out of completing a badge... only an emoticon, a background and a coupon. --- http://raptr.com/badge/dc821beb3ce7e522d4d6721ba24c11e0/fs.png http://i.imgur.com/KDYNR.jpg
I'm not complaining... its free money you get by obtaining the cards while playing games. I just thought it would be part of the summer sale and it would end by that time. --- http://i.imgur.com/r9pppzV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BcGVG.gif
One, selling the cards leads to a discount as well, screw completing the set. Two, link me to a list of the games people are getting free. --- Asus Sabertooth z77 - Core i5 3570k @ 4.5Ghz - Hyper 212 Evo - G. Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB Ram - EVGA GTX 680 - Xion 1000W PSU
There are thousands of geeks hungry to take them off my hands within seconds of posting them since Steam started doing this. The real question is why the hell would you collect this crap?
some people enjoy collecting cards physical or digital, it makes them happy and they have fun doing so. Who are you to judge what people do for fun. Its not like they're going out and robbing people for card money. --- Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Weep, and you weep alone. The armory of god is guarding me but all you can see is holographic artistry.
The great thing about the steam cards is that if you have no interest in them, you can sell the cards, if you have an interest in them, you can buy the cards, or trade the cards, or hang on to them in hopes of a booster pack giving you the rest of the cards. It's also totally optional and completely cosmetic...
Well it's cosmetic unless you're one of those people for whom 250-300 friends isn't enough. The extra slots on your friends list is just about the only "useful" thing you can get out of this, though that's still assuming you need more than 300 friends. I guess if you're an internet celebrity and everyone wants you on their friends list as a status symbol you'd need more than 300 friends.
If you have no interest in the steam levels but you kinda want the emotes or the backgrounds, those are for sale, so you're able to gain some of the rewards without paying much. Hell, you could sell your cards, and use the proceeds to buy all of the emotes and backgrounds you get from crafting badges in some cases.
It's just another "fun" thing to do that nobody is really forcing on you...if you don't want to sell the cards, don't want to buy the cards, and don't want to trade the cards, then just ignore the cards. It's not like steam is going to fill up...but really I would sell the cards if I didn't care. --- http://raptr.com/badge/arleas/uc.png http://www.speedtest.net/result/2868545294.png
