Old Sega Smash Pack games displays weird colors.

#1zxelmanPosted 8/28/2013 6:32:26 PM
Decided to re-install this and play some Shining Force/Sonic. Only to realize the whole menu and game has weird colors. Most of the colors are right but I'm seeing Sonic with gray shoes and the rest of the game with muddy colors.

I ran in compatibility mode for pretty much any Windows OS I could, ran the program in 256 colors (only made it worse, which I expected), and of course ran as administrator.

Then, I decided why not run the game on my Nvidia card, and the game is now having an epidemic seizure on both my Intel and Nvidia card now.

Any help?

Yea I'm on Windows 7. I google'd and found that link and some others. No luck. I just thought why not ask but it seems like I'll have to use other methods to play any of the old games I own.

Try something like this maybe http://www.guidingtech.com/9914/change-from-16-bit-to-32-bit-color-windows-7/

but...go TO 16 bit. Some guy in the comments said

I have a Gens emulator, when i try to run it it distorts the colors. I have to manually change from 32 bit to 16 bit, how can I set it to switch automatically? It used to be set up like that, then i deleted the program.

So it might work for you if you manually set it. Of course everything else will look weird until you switch it back, but at least the game would look right

Well, this a random thought, but I know old games like Diablo 2 can run in weird color problems, and you can fix it by right clicking on the desktop -> Screen Resolution... and leave that new window open. Yes, thats it, somehow when its opened, it fixes the problem in those games. Probably one of the most illogical fix I've ever come across but there you go.

I have no idea if the problem is the same but its so easy, won't hurt to try.
