Thinking of getting a tablet

#1betatechPosted 8/29/2013 9:18:28 AM
After setting up/trying out my aunts tab 2 I'm thinking of picking up a cheap tablet.

So far I'm thinking of getting this:
http://www.tesco.com/direct/lenovo-a2109-916gbquad-core-black/103-0249.prd?skuId=103-0249&pageLevel=sku&_requestid=3417908

I'm paying 140 for this due to an offer and it gets 1 years free accidental damage.

Is this ok for the money or should I look at others instead? From a tablet I'm looking for:
1. >=9".
2. HDMI output.
3. Ability to return a product because I don't like it (I know Tesco, Asda and Amazon do this).

I mostly plan to browse the web, watch films and maybe play the odd emulator. Budget is around 150.

So far the only alternative I've seen is the Nook HD+ but that requires an adapter for HDMI which when I looked was either not easily available or relatively expensive.

Thank you.

You could also consider the Kindle Fire HD 8.9". It's rather different from a standard Android tablet even though it uses Android, it's more expensive than that Lenovo, but it has a number of perks. Look into it!

Thanks, I had seen it but the price is well over my budget.

Is there anything particularly wrong with the lenovo?

I know from the reviews that it has bad viewing angles (not an issue for me).

Another (related) question, does anyone know of a good program which allows me to stream video over the internet easily to both a tablet and smartphone?

In the past I've used orb but that's shutting down and has been mediocre in recent years.

I suggest getting a ASUS Transformer Prime w/ Dock. I've never owned a better tablet. The dock also doubles as a secondary battery where my tablet last anywhere from 12 to 13 hours when it's connected and it works as a charger for the tablet as well. say your using your tablet off the dock and it gets low on battery but your not near a charger. just snap them together and it will feed the tablet.

Also with the dock it makes it way easier to play emulated games. especially ps1 games like FF7 and Chrono Cross. It also has a mini hdmi dock and works with many Bluetooth gaming controllers. Say I want a good game of Super Mario bros or Street Fighter 2 or even Samurai Showdown. I just plug in my mini hdmi and sync my controller and play it on my big screen tv in the living room.

I never thought a tablet would be so useful but between my retro gaming habit and using it to read the hundreds of books I have on it while im at work I can say it's been a wonderful device.

@josh_b

I've had a look around and it seems that they've been discontinued (at least where I live), the only ones I can find are either over my budget and/or used and/or from sources I'd rather avoid.
