fine? The low price concerns me, but she would only be using the laptop for email, internet, and word processing.

My mom and my aunt both recently got similar laptops. My aunt got one with the E-300, and my mom got one with a Pentium 2020m. In terms of performance for basic tasks, they hardly perform any different. I'd look at other things like quality of keyboard rather than the specs. I noticed the Toshiba has a numberpad and the HP doesn't. Consider stuff like that.

I have a netbook with a 1.66ghz dual core atom and it's painfully slow at everything. For myself, I would definitely get that pentium between the two of them since the e-300 is clocked at 1.3ghz. If your mom doesn't know any better she might not have a problem with the e-300 (and it might be better than I think).
Every time I try to go where I really wanna be it's already where I am, 'cuz I'm already there

You'd be surprised how well the E-300 runs on Windows 8. If there is one good thing about Windows 8 it is that it runs very fast on some fairly weak hardware. My mom didn't like Windows 8, so I installed Windows 7 for her. Now my aunt's computer actually starts up faster.

I'm guessing you have an Atom N450, right? The E-300 is better than it. For one, it has a much better GPU. Another thing is that it has out-of-order execution.

The amount of topics asking this is....weird. Can we make a list of laptops that CAN'T use email?
