Looking at picking up A10-6800k.

$161.41 at Micro Center for the A10 and an A75 motherboard. Seems like the best bet, any other input?

I'm gonna make it tougher on myself by adding some info:

For now, I'm going to lightly game on the APU -- no graphics card. Maybe in the future.

That being said, I figured the A10-6800k would give me the best performance as both CPU/GPU. Is the A10 miles ahead of the A8 in computing/graphics performance?

I would say .. Maybe.

I have built 2 APU systems and while they work great I cannot for the life keep the APUs from running hot. I have tried 2 aftermarket coolers and multiple applications of paste ( Mx4 and AS5 ) on them both and they still idle ~45c and under load get up to 90c ( Planetside 2 ) which is 16c over the recommended threshold. I have since replaced them with the Althon X4s for FM2 and they are awesome for the price.

My opinion would be to skip the APU and get one of the Athlon X4s for the FM2 socket and then get a Radeon 7790 or 7850.

Edit : Since you are going to do light gaming I would get a 7790 1GB.

I think the problem would be poor airflow in that case.. I haven't run across many CPUs that get hot with adequate airflow. That's not a concern of mine at this point. I looked into the option you suggested, but it's an increase of about $90 to do so and I don't think I would be happy with it. As far as "bang for your buck" I think I might have found the best.

It isnt airflow. It is the only systems I have ever built that ever ran that hot.

Your choice :).
