Convince me to give up gaming from my couch and to buy a monitor.

Right now, I game from my couch on my 59'' 1080p plasma HDTV. I'm extremely comfortable sitting on my couch because it has recliners but it's not very good for a keyboard and mouse. I'm using a plastic lap desk for the kb/m and it's manageable, but I would prefer a desk to place them on.

I'm looking at purchasing a $300 monitor but to do that, I would need to buy a computer desk and comfortable office chair. I already have a desk and office chair, but my will be using it for school so I can't take it away just to game on. So just for that, I'm looking at spending $250 or so, so that puts me at about $550 to game on a monitor.

Pros of gaming from couch:
Extremely comfortable
Requires no extra purchases

Cons:
Not ideal for mouse and keyboard, but it is manageable

Pros of gaming on monitor:
Better visuals
Comfortable mouse and keyboard setup

Cons of gaming on monitor:
$550 total purchase
Not nearly as comfortable and gaming on couch

If your budget is $550, it's a pretty easy choice IMO:

If I misunderstood and your budget is $300, sorry about that, it wasn't clear to me.

It's $300 for the monitor and $250 for the desk and office chair.

Sorry, you gotta make it idiot-proof. Leave out the chair and desk and multiple prices etc, just stick with the basics, or old fogeys like me get confused. :)

For the desk and chair, check to see if you have a Habitat for Humanity re-store around you. I got a very nice $200 office chair for $8 from there. That thing is almost as comfortable as my Chair and a half.

Save $400 more and buy 3 monitors. Then you can still game from your couch.

Oh, you thought they made this game for you? You clearly bought the wrong game.

I'm stationed in Germany so my only options are to buy from our BX (which is really expensive for furniture), online (where a lot of vendors don't ship large boxes APO), used from people around the area (i'm at a small base so it's hard to find something specific for a good price), and on the German economy (which is ridiculously priced and in Euros).

Ouch, that sucks.

You could always cheat if the BX has card folding tables. I use 2 of the rectangle ones put together length wise with a monitor stand. Has worked for years. I only do it that way cause I am a picky princess and can't find a desk I actually want to use.

Just stick with your TV unless its one of those big fat ones that take up space.

I've got a 60" flatscreen tv and I sit about 2-2.5feet from it (i have a large card table I put my kb/m on and the TV sits on a stand behind it), and its excellent to game on up close.
