What is Steam's obsession with Prison Architect?

#1pothocketPosted 8/30/2013 1:11:43 PM
Is it an experiment to see how many people they can get to buy a beta? Are they in bed with the developers? Are the developers taking all that pre-purchase money and spending it on promoting the game?

Seriously. That game has been featured on Steam for a long time now. They made a big deal about it when it first went 'early access', it was a big part of the Summer Sale, there's collectible cards for it, there's a workshop for mods, It's on sale yet again as a featured game this weekend...

Am I missing something or has Steam gone insane over a beta?

Not gonna vouch for anything else, but it seems to me like developers are the ones who do workshop and trading card support more than Steam does. Obviously Steam's got to be on board, but there are like a million games nobody seems to care about that all have trading cards. I doubt there's any correlation there. I also see really obscure games with workshops that literally only have two items in... both made by the developers themselves.
I'm thinking it's a coincidence.

No need for being strictly formal on a message board, right?

A lot of games have trading cards, even Postal 2 has trading cards.

I'm guessing they are just putting tons of money towards promoting it, because otherwise nobody would buy a game like that for $30.

So it's the developers of the game at fault? They're using their company resources to implement trading cards and community mods as well heavily marketing their game rather than finishing it?

I'm pretty sure that's not what 'early access' is for.

I'm with you on the hate towards early access and selling alphas for 20+ dollars.

But really, you don't have to buy it. I played it a while back when it was early access... I couldnt use lockdown without the f***ing alarm turning off until I restarted the game. And if you use lockdown more than once, it plays another clip over the other one, until eventually it's a droning noise.

i realize it was patched out and had I come across it legitimately i wouldnt have had to deal with it for long. But to put out such an obviously broken product at a full price point for consumer consumption is ridiculous. ESPECIALLY when you pay full price for a product.

that's probably the only complaint you'll hear about the game from me though. I'll buy it when it gets discounted to <$5. Indie games should never cost more.

You're not paying full price. You're paying a discounted price, it'll be more expensive when the game finally launches.

Complaining? I asked a ****ing question. I wanted to know why the game is so prominent on Steam.

You two are the annoying ones coming into a topic to complain about stuff that doesn't matter to you. Topics about early access annoy you? Don't ****ing go into them than and bump them to the top, genius.
