I'm pretty much just doing research right now, trying to decide if I want to build a new PC this year, or wait until next year. Are there any exciting things coming out that would be worth waiting for? I know AMD is going to release some new cards soon and I think I heard Intel is releasing a new line of processors/mother boards?

Ivy Bridge-E will be out by the end of the year I think. The 2011 bracket CPUs are mostly for people who want extreme PCs with 8 RAM slots and up to 4 graphics cards. It wouldn't be that big of a deal to use the Haswell processors that are still relatively new.

It's the flagship tier processors iirc. Which means you'd be dropping around $1000 on it.

Yeah, I looked into that a bit and I don't think I'm going to go for that. Right now I'm thinking I'll go for a 4 core I7, a GTX 780 with the intent to SLI sometime in the future or an AMD card depending on how those shape up.

Are you just planning on gaming mainly? I'd save your money and get an i5 if so.

Yeah mainly gaming. I want to do some video editing as well, but... yeah, I'll think about getting an I5 instead. It's kind of a shame that the processor seems to be so underutilized for most things.

Any idea if it'll fit into current LGA 1155 slots?

Pretty sure it uses the LGA 2011 sockets.
