Is Prison Architect any good?

Just noticed it was on sale via Steam. I've only seen random posts about it..

It's Early Access... it's still in development and last time I played it, it felt like it was still in development. I mean, the game is playable, but it doesn't have the full polish that a normal game would have. If you don't mind playing a game still in development (meaning it might be buggy, and it will probably change in the future) go for it.

It's certainly an interesting game. I would say if you have an interest in the "tycoon" type games it will probably interest you. If the idea of trying to build a prison and maintain the place doesn't sound cool though, just skip it.

You make it sound like the game is of a lesser caliber just because it's an indie title. Also, it's alpha access AND the full game upon release..for a discounted price. What's with the negative spin?

Its fun, I enjoyed it, but it was ridiculously easy and felt unfinished. Not in the sense that Minecraft felt "unfinished", PA literally has stop gaps to half-baked features, a clumsy economy, etc. Some things just aren't DONE yet.

Maybe you haven't been on the boards lately, but we've had a lot of crybabies whining about how early access is ruining the fabric of society or something... basically, "if devs can release a game early and still get paid, then they can get lazy and not fix bugs! Why should I pay them to be a beta tester? I want my games cheap but only if they're finished!" blah blah blah blah...

Like I said, if you have no problems with it being early access and you're interested in the games where you design/build/manage things, it's worth checking out. I played it for a bit and it's interesting but at the moment it's not enough to hold my attention for the long term.

It has an abnormally high price range for a lower budget indie title. I can't imagine that price sticking upon release, it's probably a premium for early access.

Although they've already made $6 million off it so who knows.

What happened to the good old days when people jumped at the chance to be a beta-tester?

Anyway, I'm trying to stock up on low resource sim/tycoon type games for my lappy during school and this one sounds interesting enough to play around with.

Well, maybe that was when the beta was free... Developers started moving towards "preorder now and get in the beta!" and people began complaining even back then. In this case the price is lower than the full game is going to be (though at least one game is $70 right now for early access where the final game is going to be cheaper) so it's not as bad as the "preorder to get beta" deal.

Where have you seen that the price now is cheaper than the full game is going to be?

I really doubt that's gonna happen.
