Why do they add porn to videogames?

Why can't video games just be interactive cartoons like they've always been? You said we need more sex in them, implying that we need to grow up or something. For heaven's sake, we've got the Internet. If someone wants depictions of sex, there's plenty of it. There's really no need to add softcore porn to other forms of entertainment when you've got the unfiltered stuff a click or two away.

And whatever problems exist in society with regards to sexuality (you'll always have disturbed people), I don't think sex scenes in video games will help anything.

But sometimes, some people, maybe even you, want to play a game with some semblance of story, or depth past gameplay. Maybe you don't understand this concept, maybe you do, but can you at least respect that.

I've played and enjoy story heavy games, none of which had a sex scene.

porn=/sex in video games.

Take Katawa Shoujo for example. A game about relationships, which includes sex in it.

It takes 3 hours+ or so to get to one of the sex scenes, and they're pretty brief. So no one's going to download it just to **** off (well they might, but that's not the reason it exists and they're in the minority).

Fact is you can have sex and "pornographic" scenes in a game without it just being there to arouse.

And there is a reason why people prefer sex scenes in a game over some porno. E,G

3:55 through 6 minutes or something. Not my entire point but something to consider.

Oh? Well, my apologies, but this...

I don't turn on my PS3 for some philosophical thought, I turn it on to play around with virtual action figures while enjoying some good music and visuals.

...seems to imply otherwise. Not that I'm saying you're lying, just that you made it seem like it wasn't something you were interested in.

You say that you only turn your ps3 for 'fun' (basically), implying that anything else (presumably) such as story is not what you play for. No one's saying games have to be majorly "philosophical" about sex, but a little creativity and exploration would be nice.

What about a game, which is heavily story based just like your game, but that story includes or revolves around sex or relationships? Is that inherently a bad thing in your eyes?

Of course not. Now, why is it that a story heavy game isn't "fun" to you? I had a blast playing Chrono Trigger back in the days.

Never said they weren't.

But not all games don't have to be "fun" in the traditional sense.

Papers Please isn't particularly "fun" as it is compelling.

Like a good movie- it doesn't have to be a "fun" movie to be compelling or good.

It's hard to express this notion accurately every time it comes up concisely- so when I refer to a game which is just "fun" due to its gameplay alone I class that as a game you play for "fun", whereas if it's a story then "compelling" or similar is what I tend to use.

Yeah gameplay can be described as compelling and whatever, but you get my point.

I don't see "entertainment" as being nothing but a "guns blazing" sort of product. To me, an entertaining video game is one that gives me a good time. Pretty simple.

What is this "traditional sense" you speak of?

Ok.

I play a shooter.

I shoot stuff. It dies. The controls feel good. The game is good. It is "fun".

That is the traditional sense- mindless. Fun as in lighthearted pleasure or amusement.

And games likes papers please, my comparisons to movies, visual novels etc are the other kind of enjoyment you derive. Not neccesarily what you'd describe as "fun".

I don't read 1984 and go "gee, that was fun!"

I could find it a good read and perhaps enjoyable, but fun? Not the word I'd use.

You see the distinction I'm trying to make?

Of course, there are plenty of games which incorporate both into the mix.
