But but . . . 3D . . .

3D was a fad that has now failed, just like all rational people said it would.
4K is the latest gimmick, and just like 3D - designed to raise the price of TVs for a short time. It will also fail.

"After becoming one of the first to broadcast it and then getting burned on the failure of 3-D television, ESPN is holding back its bet on 4K television — the purported “the next big thing” from television set manufacturers." - Broadcast Engineering

You're joking, right?
4K is just the next HD. It's a resolution upgrade.

But like 3D, it's debatable how much value it brings.

Frankly, true 3D has much more value than 4k resolution.

I only just got a 1080p monitor... 4k is just a blip on the horizon as far as i'm concerned. And assuming the GPU has to work 4 times as hard, considering my single 7970 is not good enough for me... I'm not ready to drop a buttload of money on a monitor and tri-sli'ing 780s. Maybe I'll buy a lotto ticket.

You can say it's not a good value all day, but do you seriously expect resolution to stagnate for the next decade?

I expect true 3D to take off way before 4k does.

Most people can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080 as it is.

4k would have to do something ****ing futuristic for anyone to care while 3D has obvious value when done correctly.

4k is going to fail. While it is amazing, people don't have the money to be moving at the pace of new technology.

So, you're saying resolution is going to stagnate over the next decade. 1080p will be it, for forever.
Seriously? No.

I'm okay with 1080P right now. I'm using a DVI cable, so this doesn't affect me. 4K will be great, but they're only on larger monitors. I think that my 23" one is already too big. For me 4K will be better for a TV since large ones need more pixel density. Even considering that, I'm still okay with 1080P for a while. High resolution is great, but I'm not going to rebuy all my Blu-rays in 1440P.
