One of the things I love the most about PC gaming

Is when cinematics, intros or during cutscenes are not as good looking as the graphics themselves.

For example, I was playing Burnout Paradise last night and the intro video looks like the PS3 version but then the gameplay actually starts and the cutscenes look like overcompressed 540p
web videos.

Same goes for pretty much every multiplatform games.

I hate that. Wish they'd just make the cutscenes in-engine.

Right? That feeling when the in-game cutscenes are terrible quality and don't feature how your character looks in game. Why even bother? Looks crappy.

I prefer having uglier CGI and good looking gameplay than the other way around. Too many games have great cutscenes and lacking engines. At least I'm pleasantly surprised not terribly deceived.

I wish. Unfortunately some of the scenes portrayed in cutscenes just wouldn't be able to be shown in real time easily. Especially if there were a lot of switching locations. Still, while I understand sometimes a video is the most logical, I don't want grainy cutscenes. When you download a game through steam, it'd be nice if you could select via a checkbox or something, your choice between a couple different resolutions. I don't mind an extra few gigs for nice 1080p videos but I'm well aware some people would prefer the bandwidth savings.

You can blame weak hardware and games being multiplatform for requiring cruddy cutscene movies most of the time.

One problem I've noticed with in engine cutscenes is that there's always awkward clipping if two people get close together, since those pieces of the model aren't meant to ever interact. At least with pre rendered cutscenes they can eliminate stuff like that.

I agree. Usually on PC HDD space is not too much of an issue. Plus a lot of ISPs are starting to offer unlimited down/upload

the biggest disparity i have seen that stands out vividly is deus ex human revolution
shame, it is an excellent pc version, except for that compressed mess >_>
