Best RTS to get into the genre?

#1TerantatekPosted 8/31/2013 10:08:41 AM
These Civ and Total War games look neat but I'm a bit hesitant to hop in because they look complicated. I only ever played Age of Empires 1-3+Mythology and that Sid Meyers civ revolution.

What would be the best way to dip in?

Civ is a turn based strategy and Total War is only half RTS... They are great games though nonetheless.

One game I highly recommend is Company of Heroes. Also Anno 2070 if it's something you're interested in.

There are very few games that are too complicated these days, and those games are never recommended.

Civ and the Total War series are really not that complicated. Almost anyone should be able to understand the basics after a handful of games.

He said RTS not TBS... Totalwar games is a hybrid of both but still the Civ series definitely not an RTS.

Civilization series is NOT an RTS. Why do people think that they are?

I never stated it was an RTS.

The TC mentioned Civ and TW in the first post saying:

I am simply stating the games are not that complicated, and he should be able to understand them decently after a few games.

If you've already played AoE and AoM then you've gotten a pretty good introduction <_<

Starcraft is popular for a reason. Play it

Playing anything but Starcraft would be depriving yourself of the best rts experience available currently. Its really, really good.
