Is it weird that I'm bored of video games?

Whenever this happens I'll just get a new story based game (i.e visual novel or RPG) and play it. Or I play dota.

And I can always read.

Never been put off gaming for a prolonged period of time though TBH.

I do that, too. I'm currently reading Grisaia no Kajitsu, or something. Also playing Dragon's Crown with a buddy. Nice alternation.

I'm kinda looking to get myself some nice books though. The Name of the Wind and the Hyperion Cantos are on my sights.

But yeah, I don't know. Maybe having a huge backlog makes me appreciate individual games less. Or new games are crappier? Not sure.

I quit gaming for awhile and came back.
Gaming for me comes in spurts, depending how good the games are.
I don't buy games anymore just to buy them.

I'm 17 now and sometimes I feel just like what you are describing. You need a party of people to play the same game with you.

Exactly this.

Over the year's I've been like that, and as I started experimenting with different video games I determined what really draws me in.

RTS, TBS, 4X, and W/J/Sandbox RPG's are really the only games I play these days.

Pretty much every other genre bores me to death. Especially FPS. One of the only exceptions being Half Life 2/Portal 2.

Now I just stick to the genre's that interest me and gaming is great. The majority of games that get hyped, and the majority of "AAA" games I can never finish. I get bored half way through, or even after a few minutes. Where something like Sins of a Solar Empire, Civilization V, Europa Universalis IV, Skyrim, Starcraft 2, etc. have sunk in over 100 hours each.

I'm so busy most of the time that when I have the time to actually sit down and lose myself in a video game, I get pretty excited.

So take longer breaks between games, I guess.

Similar situation. I'm turning 30 and I have had this happen to me several times over the years. I've been playing since I was 3 years old. I usually just don't play for a few months then come back to it and im excited all over again.

Also it usually takes a special game to get me going again. last time it was Kerbal Space Program.

You need to try different genres. Most of the people who run around moaning about how they are "bored of" videogames are just sick of online FPS deathmatches. Here's a hint: Those only became the dominant genre over the last 7 years. And I can't believe more people don't get sick of them.

I get it. Just stop playing until you actually feel like it. Go do something else... join a cult or band or pick up a trendy drug habit.

Nobody can just do one hobby. Alternatively, pick up a bunch of dudefriends that can play shoot the dudes with you and you can shoot the dudes together. Way more fun that shooting dudes on your own.
