Having problems connecting DualShock 3 controller

#1Reaper_MinionPosted 8/31/2013 6:18:13 PM
On a new rig with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. For some reason, Windows refuses to recognize the controller. It installs some generic driver when I connect it, but the controller is grouped under "Unspecified" instead of "Devices" and doesn't show at all on the list of game controllers, so I can't actually use it. Any idea what's preventing Windows from recognizing the controller?

I plan to use XInput Wrapper, but Windows has to recognize the controller before I can install that.

Tried other USB ports? Not quite the same, but I couldn't get my PS3 pad to link up with my bluetooth radio when I had it in one of my USB 3.0 ports and had to move it up to one of the 2.0 ports on my mobo.

Also, just try telling the xinput wrapper to install everything, see what happens. I've uninstalled and reinstalled mine without plugging the pad in again.

Once we perfect building Mechs, I expect there to be a factory in Mexico pumping out a brand call Mechsican. I wanna buy me a Mechsican.

Interesting. I tried 3 different ports before and none of them worked. I just tried a fourth and Windows finally recognized the controller.

Thanks for your help :D

I'm a fan of the 360 controller because of this.

Well, now the controller stops working and disappears from the list of connected controllers after I install XInput Wrapper. The weird thing is that it's still recognized as a controller on the devices list.

This is dumb >_>

Use motionjoy. Its the best thing out there. It comes with easy drivers and can make the ps3 controller emulate an xbox controller.

This normally works fine, but it's just not working out on this rig.

It's buggy, causes BSoD's, and is annoying as hell to uninstall.

Not to mention motionjoy can f*** your Windows bluetooth stack, and make usb mice and keyboards completely dead and non functional on your computer. Not even uninstalling the driver works, because the buggy piece of s*** installs itself at low level and damaging registry enties requiring a system restore (Something I had to do to get rid of all traces of it)

Just a cautionary warning, if you do decide to use motionjoy.
