Found a copy of Age of Mythology, couple of questions

Is bot AoM and AoE2 not as much of a clickfest as starcraft? (though speed is pretty important but my main worries is really babysitting individual units). I was also wondering if there are any improvements in AoM in terms of mechanics that has been brought to AoE2 HD?

It's much, much slower than Starcraft. Have you ever played Warcraft (before WoW)? It's closer to that.

And there are no new mechanics in AoE2 HD (unless you count increasing population limit), it's just AoE2 in HD.

I know WC and would have prefered if they stick to it. I hope you are sincere with your answer judging from your reputation here.

Anyway I loved Stronghold's mechanics of not micromanaging troops but the problem is that game is more of a castle simulator than traditional RTS.

It's definitely a slower paced game and there's a bit more focus on base building and gathering. You can still micro-manage in combat, especially if you use heroes, siege units or myth units with special attacks.

Played my AoE2 and started to see that the pace is not too bad and I guess this is my kind of RTS. I really suck at the first one but I was too young back then. I think there are some things from AoM that they should have included like the idle peasants button on the screen and the scout button (I think it was a scout button or something). Though I guess there are some hotkeys to find scouts and idle peasants but it really helps if it was like AoM since its pretty hard to spot my peasants at times.

I now start to see the rock-paper-scissors nature of the game and finally understand it now. Still trying to get used to the myth-hero-ordinary system of AoM. Will try to play a skirmish game though. I was wondering if the maps are randomly generated or there is a pool of maps and it only chooses from that one on random instead of generating a new one?

I haven't played the game in years, but I do remember an idle peasent icon that shows up when you have idle peasants.

And that game is a more complex rock, paper, scissors because they have hard counters.

(This is going off old memories)

You have infantry > calvary > archers > infantry

But then you have anti-infantry >>>> infantry ---- anti-calvary >>>> calvary---- anti-archers >>>> archers. But all the antis are weak against stuff they don't counter.

So the game is all about being able to mircomanage well to mass produce units while at the sametime trying to counter each other.
