So I just watched TotalBiscuit try out the Rift, and I'm now sold on the Rift. I'll probably wait and see how much it is, and for Titanfall to come out. I really want to play Titanfall with the Rift. What are your thoughts on the Oculus Rift?

Get on the bandwagon after it's an established and affordable thing.

To me, it seems kinda gimmicky....kinda like the virtual boy, which tried the same thing (goggles instead of a screen). To top it all off, if people run around like they've been seen to in some videos, as opposed to using kb/m, I definitely want no part of it, I wanna sit down and play games, not run around.

I voted "other", which amounts to "see if this thing actually takes off and becomes mainstream, then buy it if I think it's any good."

Yeah, you definitely don't have to run around. The most you have to worry about is getting sick. I liked TB's first impressions because he gets motion sickness in games, and he seemed to handle it for a good amount of time.

I feel like I'd use it to play lots of games for like an hour each to test it out, then never use it again. Too gimmicky for me.

Love the Occulus Rift and intend to get it quickly, though I'm smart as a consumer and for a device of that price, I will wait for reviews of the consumer version.

I don't see how seeing through the eyes of the character can beconsidered a gimmick. It has insane immersion factor, and some gameplay value to it (such as looking around in a driving or flying game or what have you).

For me in general, its really all about the immersion. I can't wait to pick a mouse, keyboard and Oculus and play anything through the character eyes with it. Would I use it -everytime-? Maybe not. Because I don't always care about absolute immersion. But sometimes I do, and I'd want the Oculus for it.

Other than that, sure it has great full blown VR potential, but we'll see where that ever goes. I'm not even expecting games to ever really require the Oculus by itself, but that doesn't lower its value.

It's really the only interesting thing coming up anytime soon, so I am looking forward to it.

Buy it immediately. A lot of what I want to do with it has nothing to do with gaming and I imagine there will be plenty of free software for it.

The Virtual Boy and the Rift shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. The VB had small red and black screens which gave the effect of looking down a tunnel while the Rift has full color high def screens with full peripheral vision. In fact, all VR headsets to date were like looking down a tunnel to some degree. The big innovation with the Rift is that you have a huge field of view and that full peripheral vision: http://i.imgur.com/nKalSqB.png

Also, the Rift creators would prefer you to sit down and not run around with the headset not only because it takes some getting used to but also because lawlsuits. You can use traditional controls including kb/m or a gamepad if you're using it to play a game.
