Opinions on the Oculus Rift?

I don't dislike it, but I just have no interest in the Oculus Rift at all.

Since watching Carmack's most recent panels, I've had a lot of interest in a low-latency strobed (lightboost-style) head display with relative head tracking. Hearing them mention IPD was quite encouraging. I wonder if they'll one day account for a slight dynamic deviation based on eye angling.

I'll be waiting for some high res consumer models, and perhaps a lighter version, but I'm very, very interested.

I wonder if you can use them with glasses.

I don't believe so. They did mention having the ability to get prescription lenses as a possibility. Changing the actual lenses of the device. Kinda sucks if you want to set it up for more than yourself unless its a quick swap.

I heard some people were able to use it comfortably with glasses. Might depend on the size of the glasses, though. (No hipster fake glasses for you!)

It's probably awesome but way too gimmicky. I might just wait another 5 years till OLED technology can deliver very subtle, yet noticeably 3D without any uncomfortable glasses or dorky looking headset.

According to that, they're still going to try to release the final product at $300. Also, Carmack has already had a major impact on the development of the OR. I would definitely spring for the dev kit now except that the final product is going to be even better, so unless the dev kits turn into collector's items or something it's better to wait.

HOLD IT!!!! I wear glasses and was able to use my friends oculus rift just fine with them on. There is plenty of room to fit them snugly inside.

Other, I am not particularly drawn to it at the moment, sound has my immediate focus at the moment.

And in other news: life is gimmicky.

I'm much more interested in the rift than the next gen systems. I'll most likely buy one when the consumer version gets out and the price is around what they aim for (300ish). I'm most interested in driving and flying sims, but will try it in pretty much everything. Something like skyrim that has properly designed with rift in mind could be absolutely mindblowing.
