How trustworthy is ebay? Want to purchase but feel sketched out about it.

It's only about $40 cheaper than Amazon's price but I'm so use to Amazon's trustworthy service and I've never purchased anything from ebay before, so I'm not sure how they are. Whenever I've had an issue with Amazon, they've ALWAYS taken care of it immediately. Does this seem like a pretty solid deal? Am I over looking anything? Seems like it's brand new with free shipping.

That seller seems legit. I don't usually buy from anyone under 98%.

I think this is the page showing what's what for people buying things off of Ebay.

I don't use Ebay too often so I might be wrong.

eBay is fine, and almost always sides with the buyer on disputes (which can be a bad thing for sellers). Its just a matter of making sure who you're buying from has good feedback, and taking a look at the description and shipping very closely so you don't end up buying something you didn't want.

Wow, ebay sucks. I ordered the item a few days ago and the next day, ebay sent me an e-mail saying my account was hacked and I need to reactivate my account. I spoke to them and have no idea why they thought it was hacked and they said the item is still shipping. I checked the website and it says that the item was cancelled. I contacted the seller twice by e-mail and he did not respond. I tried calling him but I couldn't find the number. I called ebay again today and they said the item was cancelled and it'll take 10 days to give me a refund. What a pain in the ass.

You can never be certain when you buy things from people online, but this is as certain as it gets.

One thing you might want to consider is whether you get a receipt that you can use in case you need the warranty.

You did something wrong.

I've bought tons of items from ebay and never once had the issue you just described.

Sorry about your egregious luck. I've used ebay for YEARS without any issues.

The worst part about eBay so far as a seller in my opinion are the dishonest customers and the fees.

I'll sell a SSD for 230 USD. Paypal will take a fee, ebay will take a fee, and I'll be down to like, 200 USD only now. Then after shipping the drive with insurance to the guy he will claim the item is not as described and then ship me back a dead drive.

Now I've just chunked 10 dollars down the drain for shipping for no reason and I'm down 240 USD total for what was a brand new SSD factory sealed in its retail packaging.

And there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I can do as a seller to fight this. Even saying that I don't accept returns doesn't help. Even saying I have video evidence that the drive was brand new exactly as described and any discrepancies the buyer has be taken to the manufacturer instead. Nothing. Even when I record myself showing the brand new SSD and putting it into the box and packing it and taking it to USPS. Ebay will still accept that it was my fault for "deceiving" the seller and shipping an item that was not as described.

================

That said. If anyone knows of a better site to sell computer components please let me know. I've got two brand new Intel 520 240 GB drives that I'm hoping I won't have to sell on eBay. I've been looking for a new selling site for years but it seems like eBay has a monopoly.
