question on MBPS on routers

what is the point of buying anything better than the $30 150mbps routers? Your ISP usually only gives you like 60mbps and that's usually the high end tier of service.

Yet there are 750mbps, 900, and even 1750!

It's to improve local network transfer speeds.
Also there plenty of ISPs that offer 100mbps or higher speeds now.

I have an intranet setup for my business. When I have to share X amount of GB's, I want to transfer them as quickly as possible. I use a wireless router and connect the devices to it and transfer between them.

Some ISPs can give you high speeds like in korea.

Exactly.

It also helps for media; if you have a media server or stream from a PC to a remote device (PS3, Xbox, etc), then higher network throughput will help make streaming a lot smoother.

You'll also have to consider the capabilities of your access points to take advantage of the higher transfer speeds, though. Since manufacturers often use non-standard technologies to achieve their higher throughput, you'll only really see benefits if you use a corresponding access point that can achieve those speeds.
For example, an older model PS3 has 802.11g support with up to 54mbps of throughput. Buying a 108mbps capable 802.11g router will not allow the PS3 to magically transfer higher than 54mbps, so you'd have to get an adapter to hook up to the PS3 to get it to go faster.

And when you're talking about throughput, remember it's all maximum theoretical speed ratings. Your actual transfer speeds are going to be significantly lower than advertised.
