Dust bunnies = more heat.

More heat is always undesirable. You really should take some compressed air and blow out all the dust every few months.

I see that explains the burning metallic smell... i feel bad for not taking better care of it

Should probably use some dust filters. Since I've started using them on all my intakes, there's barely any dust going in.

Meh , it is important to not let it get too bad, but I do not keep is squeaky clean either. There are two things I try to avoid

-Dust and lint blocking airflow to/from the fan
-Dust and lint being caked onto the components

Neither really needs you to clean thoroughly though. A quick wipe takes care of pretty much all of that.

Do you think I should wash my hands after I've been to the toilet?

If your food is clean going in, shouldn't it be clean coming out? >.>

I have seen the most basic dusting of a case decrease temperatures by 10 degrees (C) when it gets bad enough. On the same system, I've seen a thorough dusting/cleaning decrease temperatures by 20 degrees (C).

Dust build up can be a serious problem, so it's best to clean every once in a while.

I dust my PC out every 6-12 months. Usually my PC runs a few degrees cooler, but the main difference is the fan noise.
