I just got hit with some nasty malware and I'm just thinking I should just back up my stuff and reinstall my OS. But I have Vista so this is a nice excuse to upgrade my OS.

Best buy.
Check out the bottoms of laptops and write down the key :)

One of them is bound to work.

Thanks for reminding me man. I just checked Dreamspark again and it looks like my school upgraded and now it seems like I can get Windows 7 or 8 for free.

What should I get?

Windows 7? Windows 8 or the Windows 8.1 preview?

Will I have to do another reinstallation later if I get the 8./1 preview? Or is that basically a service pack?

Well If you could get windows 7 64bit I think that would be the best solution, but everyone on this board is gonna say windows 8

No reason to ever run a preview release as a main OS. As for 7 or 8, flip a coin.

I rather just get Windows 8. I already have Vista and that is basically Windows 7. Windows 8 is a "new" experience. I might just like it. And if not I can just download one of those start button mods and then I'd basically have a polished up Windows 7.
