I currently play FFXIV:ARR and in highly populated areas it is very choppy and almost unplayable.

My current setup is :

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

I purchased all of it except the GPU in 2008. I was thinking about purchasing these:

Yes? No? Suggestions? I'd like to not spend any more money than necessary if possible.

Thanks.

That should be a decent performance increase, but it's not great or anything.

It is without a doubt your processor. Upgrade that. Haha.

I wouldn't get an aftermarket cooler, and instead perhaps get a nice i5 with motherboard stock cooler instead. It would suit you much, much better.

A 6-core CPU will perform almost exactly the same as a 4-core CPU for gaming. No need to shell out the extra money for the 6-core.

Any recommendations? I don't know too much about PC hardware anymore, these were recommended to me by someone else.

I mean, that's not a terrible choice, but I would go with an i5.

I'd either go with:

A Z77 mobo and 3570k

OR

A Z87 mobo and a 4670k (newer tech, but not a big leap in CPU performance over the last gen)

Either one would be a nice upgrade over your 2.9 dual core CPU.

I'd get the 4670K. It's pretty much the de-facto gaming processor currently.
