Is there a good chance that will have solved the problem, or is it likely something else?

highly unlikely Origin is the cause, or any app. some apps can trigger blue screen of death but that's due to a flakey machine that the app exposes under certain conditions, not the app itself

BSOD is normally hardware malfunction or sketchy (display) drivers

i'd thoroughly uninstall display drivers and then resintall fresh.

if that doesn't stop BSOD:

goto System Properties and Advanced tab
click settings under Startup and Recovery
Uncheck Auto restart and check write event to System log
nexttime system BSODs it will display blue screen and make minidump (you might find a kind soul who will aalyse it, not me though)
when back in OS goto eventvwr.msc and take note of bugcheck code
google it. hope it's something simple you can fix yourself

if you can't fault find, resinstall OS
if happens again, maybe consult an expert

Thanks. I'm no computer whiz, but I can definitely try the things you suggested. I'm about to load up Outlast again, so we'll see if it happens again.

no prob

there are stress testing apps out there that can expose frailty in overall system
there are specific apps that focus on particular components, eg. you can put your memory thru it's paces with memtest
as a last ditch effort before paying money to get it looked at you can also swap components in and out to isolate something that's faulty

but nine times out of ten, it's drivers (normally display ones)

good luck, BSOD fault finding can test anyone's patience/sanity.

I'll try the drivers first and hopefully that solves the problem. If it happens again, I'll know it's time to dig deeper. Hopefully all goes well...

I like where your head is at TC.

There certainly wouldn't be any harm from deleting Origin.

Well, for what it is worth, I played over an hour of Outlast tonight without any issues. I still need to see how it holds up from longer sessions.
