Why the hell do I download slow on Steam but can load sites fast?

#1BigB0ss13Posted 9/6/2013 4:47:56 PM
I have wireless connection and with Steam it's unpredictable when it would be fast and when it's slow. Yesterday it was going at a decent download rate then today it's f***ing slow then fast for a few seconds, etc. And whenever I download off Steam I don't go do anything that would slow down the download like go to other sites or download other stuff

I live in a 2 story house and the wireless router is on second floor while my room is on the first floor. I guess it's because of the location of the wireless router when I'm on my phone using my home's internet while taking a dump upstairs things load super fast on my phone's web broswer but it's in my brother's room and he's a f***ing little b**** and only wants the router in his room. Is there anyway to improve my wireless connection without moving the router?

Your speed test results are pretty slow. 1.5mbps translates to a download speed of ~200kBps which is what Steam reports

LOL this is literally the first time I've seen someone with a way higher upload than download. You have like 5x upload wtf.

Also like other poster said, you 1MB download is hilariously slow considering you said it was "fast"...

Of course your downloads will go slow. Add in the latency from your wireless as well as what seems like intermittent signal loss I would say everything is going according to plan.

A good amount of the time it goes over 500kb/s to 1mb/s but like I said it's f***ing random and it can either stop to 0 kb/s or less than 200

You mean 500mBps or 1mBps? The upper and lower case b has meaning. B is for bytes and b is for bits. There are 8 bits in a byte so you multiply or divide by 8 to convert between the two.

I think if I my computer is connected to the internet wire thing itself I can easily have speeds of 20mb/s or if my computer was right next to the router. Man I wish there was another choice besides Comcast where I live. I don't want that s***ty DSL
