Is Starcraft 2 fun?

Yes, if you eventually get bored with Ladder there are a plenty of fantastic Arcade (custom) games to choose from.

The campaign isn't too bad either.

Campaign is OK. It's a blast online.

You can not compare the Civ series to starcraft or any other game like it. Civ series you can take as much time you want in games like Starcraft its all in real time and you have act fast and quick or you will be screwed.

Define deep?

It has the most intricate strategies and tactics compared to any other modern RTS game.

People in code S can make 100,000's of dollars a year just by being the best SC2 player on the planet.

The Custom games are really fun, the multiplayer wasn't that great for me. Campaign is solid too. I love RTS's, but Starcraft online was pretty meh

I actually had more fun playing the campaign. I never liked the competitive nature of the online play. I'm not a huge RTS player, and playing multiplayer was too much like work--trying to micromanage as fast as possible while figuring out how to counter their build order, I get enough stress from my real life job. Now TBS games like Civilization 5 are more of my speed.

I'm going to get mega flamed for this, but I find that Starcraft 2 relies less on strategy and more on speed and twitch reflexes.

It's about fast build orders, and fast micromanagement. There is little strategic thought.

I find games like Total War, Civ and Eurpoa to be true strategy games.

BTW I really enjoy Starcraft 2's campaign, but playing online is like getting kicked in the nuts.

I'm in the exact same boat with SC2 online.

I prefer to think about my strategy in turns, but also enjoy the tactical real time combat of games like Shogun 2.
