Theoretically speaking, if an amazing game came out that could be played 100% through your web browser, how would you recommend the company that made it make money?
Advertisements? Paid Content (Extra skins / items / etc.)? Memberships? Donations? Additional Items (such as sell T-shirts)? Actually purchasing the game (one time payment of $__)? Other? A combination?
Which ways would you support? Which ways would you not like? Which ways would make you avoid the game completely?
I would say to not do it since that's absolutely silly. That being said, it depends on the game.
Ads are annoying. Paid content is fine as long it's only cosmetic. Memberships are also fine as long as free users don't get kneecapped. Donations are perfectly fine Merch is a great idea A one time buy-in for a browser game would be silly.
Russian is my first language, so yes there may be a spelling error or two. Kirino is best girl.
Kongregate does this pretty well. Basically banner ads which the developers gets ad revenue from and the last time I checked you can donate directly to them too. There are plenty of great games people have released on that website.
Does this have anything to do with that Card/DnD hybrid game that was in beta not too long ago?
I actually haven't heard of the game you are talking about.
I think like most people here, I sometimes come up with game ideas that I think would be cool. For this specific idea, I thought it could actually be realistic / better to have it in a web browser format... so then I got to thinking how that would work from a business perspective.
