So my buddy isn't exactly an expert, and he somehow contracted "RansomWare". I didn't even know this existed, the closest thing I could think of was that DDOS stuff. Anyway, he is basically laptop-less until his "friend of my older brother's who co-founded Amazon.com" "fixes" it. I ask my mom, "Hey can he use your laptop?" Mind you I actually bought it for her. "He'll just be installing Steam, and Steam is extremely safe, it didn't come through Steam." Of course, her response...

"No, I don't care what Steam is, I'm not letting him download a virus on my brand new laptop! He doesn't even take care of his own stuff!"

Without knowing what ransomware is, how it infects a computer, or how to remove it, you thought it would be a good idea to let someone who has gotten his system infected with it play with your mom's computer.

I'm 17, and I plan to move out within the next 2 years.

I moved to a completely different state away from my parents when I was 16.

Was it Hangover 3 where the guy was still living at home at age 43?

as the father, you would have to ask yourself "where did i go wrong?"

It's her laptop. If she doesn't want Steam on it, or doesn't want your friend to use it, that's her right.

This. Also, I would not deny the possibility that Steam does collect data.

And the burnt TC never returned. Sounds more like a 14yr old imo.
