Dat parental ignorance....

Maybe your buddy should learn to fix his own computer instead of waiting on a friend of a friend of a friend to fix it. Not only would he learn useful skills, he would also learn to prevent such incidents in the future. Plus, it seems like he's got nothing better to do since he's trying to bum his friend's mom's laptop to play games.

Seriously, kids these days. I was writing my own computer programs and building computers from parts at your age.

Got to look at it from your mom's perspective. Even if your friend hadn't ruined his laptop, there's still the chance of him dropping it and smashing it or breaking it.

Just because you bought it for her, doesn't mean it's yours. You've given it to her. If you wanted it for yourself, you should have said "It's mine, but you can use it"

We're both mature enough to take care of our stuff physically, but he didn't have Anti Virus at the time, I don't know why though.

We actually started joking about it, and told her we'd head to "DownloadAllVirusesEvar.com". She eventually let him use it because I'd be keeping an eye on him, he only sits on the couch all day anyhow.

This board gets so butthurt sometimes XD.

I'm not seeing the issue....you gave your mother the laptop as a gift, it's hers to do with as she wishes, and she wishes to keep your friend (who has a track record of poor computing practices, and if his Amazon comment is anything to go on, doesn't seem terribly bright) away from her laptop. I would also give her a little slack given the fact that:

A.) She's from a different generation that didn't grow up with dozens of computing devices/not everyone is obsessed with technology

B.) She is your mother and principally responsible for you even being able to post in this forum right now

C.) She's supporting you to some degree at the moment.

This should be a lesson to your friend to not click on links randomly and/or browse porn sites or download warez/movies/music etc etc etc.

So your 17 and you and your friend just sit on a couch all day (and beg to borrow your moms laptop)? Yup, you're moving out soon.

And antiviruses are designed for stupid people. Smart people don't get viruses. Thus, your friend is stupid regardless, and you're both tools.

You're quite the stereotype.

My mom isn't stupid, she trusts me fully, and don't give me that "Anti Viruses are for stupid people." crap. I bet you'd rather be safe than sorry if your computer cost as much as two paychecks.

Oh wait, that's right, nobody on this board actually works.
