New hard drive making a lot of noise - normal?

#1perijahPosted 9/7/2013 5:27:27 AM
It's a Western Digital Caviar black. 1Tb and 3.5".

The sound is exactly like what you can hear on this video at 35 seconds:

Is that normal or is something broken?

Thanks.

That noise is normal when your hard drive is being accessed.

Blacks are known to be quite noisy when accessing data, totally normal.

Oh, wel I think I'm going to sell it then. I spend so much time and a fair amount of money to get everything into a new case with silent fans and the HDD is spoiling the effect.

Thanks for the info.

It is for a caviar black. They are quicker than blues but noisier.

Yes, my WD Black sound similar to that. I've had it for over a year with no problems. But they are noisy.

Check out the Barracudas. I use it as my storage drive, but also have a lot of games on it. It's pretty dang quiet compared to all the other hdds I've owned over the years.
