Steam survey suggests most PC gamers have weaker systems than next gen

Buddy of mine sent me this.

What the author fails to consider is that most people have been running the same hardware for 3+ years now. Most these people I'm sure just bought a standard PC and upgraded the GPU while failing to upgrade the CPU. Plus how many steam users purchases a standard PC and didn't upgrade it? These facts matter the most.

I have been running the same hardware for over 3 years now. I do plan to build a new one once the consoles are out. And I am sure I am not the only one doing this

Why is this a surprise? The most popular GPU on Steam, about half a year ago, was the Intel HD 3000.

The fact of the matter is that most people, even those that play traditional games on PCs, do not invest in high or even middle tier PC hardware.

I've yet to take time to take a Steam survey. I'd rather play games.

It makes sense.People will upgrade/buy new systems 1-2 years after next gen when we will know what kind of system is needed to play most games in medium quality just like this gen.

Most PC gamers are also only interested in playing games. They don't care how good the consoles are, and only bother to upgrade their system just because it is needed to play newer games, not so much for outgunning the consoles, which they probably will without realizing it sooner or later.

That's about as useful as the surveys that say 50% of Americans are gamers while also including those that play Angry Birds as gamers.

Remember that surveys like that include the people that have average consumer computers that they play indie games and such on using integrated graphics.
