ITT: Metro Last Light is all that matters.

ITP: The most demanding games are excluded from the definition of maxing to support the ability to say "I can max everything!!" When you really can't.

In statistics, there are certain samples of data that are so far off the average that they are simply discarded. These are called statistical outliers. That's basically what Metro LL is...it is nowhere near representative of a typical game, so to base your system's worth around running it is foolish.

Max AA is a relevant setting.

Actually, it's not all that important, unless you're playing at a low resolution. The higher you go, the less it's needed. Jaggies eliminate themselves as there are more pixels to make up the image.

True. But at 1080p, on a bigger screen (I game on a 55" LED) it is MUCH needed as screen size greatly affects the spread of those extra pixels. So, in my case, AA makes a pretty huge difference. Discounting it to say you can max everything is not the way it works.

True. The same image will look a lot worse at 55" 1080p than 27" 1440p, and AA will mean a lot more on that TV screen.

So if I don't care about AA that much (1080p on a 23" monitor doesn't really have need for the more insane AA settings, and more often than not I personally don't notice the difference) would a 770 4GB let me "max" games at 60fps for 3-4+ years? With exceptions such as Last Light, of course.

Yeah, you won't be able to max every game out, assuming you want at least 1080p and 60 FPS.

My monitor is 1440 X 900

You should get a new monitor.

I personally am waiting for the 880, supposedly due out sometime in May of next year. From what I've heard that will be the true "next" generation of cards aimed at keeping pace with higher standard of graphics that will role out with the new consoles In tthe years to come.

They offer Stat in high school now? That surprises me. I thought the educational system was garbage now because grown adults don't know the difference between their, they're, and there.

Will the rumored 880 be so significantly better than the 780 that it's worth waiting the 8 months for?

I'm still questioning if you really need something more than a 770 4GB to "max" games (aside from AA) at 1080p with 60fps for the next 3-4+ years.

It's not as if I really need the upgrade at the moment. I have a 670FTW, and I plan on buying another around Christmas time, which I know will give me roughly equivalent performance of a 780. But I'll still be limited to 2GB of VRAM, which is going to be a hindrance. There's also the fact that I plan on upgrading to 1440p within the next year.

So for me, in terms of future proofing, an 880 will be well worth the wait. It also doesn't hurt that I have plenty of time to save up for it.

you should be fine for a good while. if you really need to in 3 years you can go SLI 770s for more power.
