How do you wipe down your computer for dust?

#1RawePosted 9/7/2013 9:07:10 AM
Ive asked about using a can of air on my ps3 and pc, but what about wiping down the tower and keyboard? What's a good timeframe? I have no pets and I live on my own. Do you recommend microfiber cloths or just a swiffer handle duster? Im just trying to get a general idea cause I don't want my stuff to overheat.

I run mine through an autoclave about every week.

I'm not sure what you're asking, you just want to get rid of the dust outside the computer (tower) and keyboard? If so you shouldn't be worried about overheating... and you can check if your comp. is overheating with a program called "Coretemp" (google it). If it is overheating then you need to clean INSIDE the computer with a compressed air canister.

For the tower you can use anything, Swiffer is probably your best bet since it attracts dust.

For the keyboard I always take all the keys off and clean inside, then soak the keys in warm soapy water. But depending on the type of keyboard you have that may not be possible.

As for timeframe... that's up to you. If you feel it's getting too dirty then clean it. No need to clean it once a week or once every 2 weeks, etc. if it's not dirty enough to be worth the time.

Also I hate it when my keyboard overheats. I keep overclocking the NKRO so it will recognize everything when I facetype.

Well I don't want to insult people with ocd, but it bothers me to know that my stuff isn't clean. Like im so particular as in I MUST use a microfiber cloth on my things.

Would you say dusting a computer using cloths on th outside and air cans on the inside every 2 weeks is overkill?

Clean your computer and take note of your cpu/gpu temps and the temperature in the room. When a few weeks have passed check your temps again and see how big of a difference there is. I usually clean the inside of my tower every 2 months or so and the outside every 2-4 weeks.

The outside you can just wipe quickly with a swiffer dust cloth so no, but the inside I would say four weeks minimum, personally. Even then I don't clean that often.

For my keyboard I clean it two or three times a year by popping off the keys and individually cleaning them with about a 50/50 mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water.

I rub mine with a cat. You say you don't have any pets but maybe you can borrow one from a neighbour?
