My roommate and I are looking into one of these two devices for our place. We both have iphones and like the idea of streaming music right from there. Seeing as they are only about 10$ apart, are there any strong reasons to get the Roku over the ATV?

I have both, and I much prefer the Roku 3. It has a wider selection of channels (which really isn't a big deal, but nice)--but my main reason is because it has Plex. Plex lets you set up your computer as a media server and stream your videos. And although there is no official YouTube channel for Roku, you can add that within Plex itself.

You can also stream music/videos from your phone using the Roku app, so that's not exclusive to Apple TV.

The only reason I would recommend an Apple TV is if you have already invested a lot in movies/shows in the iTunes Store or want to use Air Play.

I have a roku 2, but plex is the greatest thing ever. Could never get a set top box that doesn't support it anymore.

QFT, Rokus are awesome and Plex is the reason to own a streaming device

This plex sounds cool. Do you know if it streams most video files like .mkv?

The WD Live supports pretty much everything natively, (it's a bit on the slow side), but works great and supports YouTube.
