Is it me or does it seem that indie RPG makers tend to want their games to be hard as @#$@?
3 of the last ones I bought, the developer say "You will die alot". --- http://happyscrub.com/tierlist.jpg

How "Indie" are we talking? Like, an independent developer made his own RPG engine and game, or some 12-year-old made an 'RPG' in RPG Maker? Because if it's the latter, and I know there are thousands of those RPG Maker games floating around, it's not surprising. If you can't write a compelling story and just want to mimic other RPGs you've played, you're going to mimic grindy ones to pad the length of the game.

Very true. In general, fan-made stuff always skews toward high difficulty. People that view it more as a hobby than a career tend not to care about accessibility.
