New to MMORPGs, do they ever get exciting or are they all fetch quests?

Specifically, Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn.

I'm at level 15 and I've done nothing exciting. Is this how the whole game is? If not, is it even worth it to go through the boring parts to get to the maybe cool parts? I don't want to pay for a boring (to me) game.

MMO players put "end game" on a pedestal for a reason.

FF14's drive is story IMO so if you don't like what you're doing you'll probably get tired before hitting end game. But that's that the free month is for ya know.

Mmo is only fun if you have friends

Thousands of Eve online missioners pay potentially 100+ USD a year to do boring fetch quests while chatting in a IRC chatroom .

play with friends and play with people in parties. thats what you pay for in an mmo. 99% of the mmo's out there use that boring quest system to get you high enough to tackle dungeons, pvp and end game stuff all with other people which is usually substantially more fun than just normal questing.

iv probably played ~40 mmo's in my life and the only ones that were actually interesting to solo were WoW(which took 6+ years to get to that point) and Guild Wars 2. Nearly all the others either require parties or use that crap fetch quest system constantly (or both).

They were exciting in the 90's before casual streamlining kicked in with WoW.

ADD, no. Where is the thread for Fallout OCD players?

This is the thing that baffles me with MMORPGs. If your game isn't fun to play through, what incentive is there to keep on playing in hopes that the "end game" is good, or even that if you would like it?

Maybe something I'm not really seeing.
