My Daemon Tools never gave me malware. You just have to watch where you're downloading it from and make sure you don't agree to install the other crap.
Yup just just don't blindly click next and daemon tools is perfectly fine. Just make sure to tick off all the "bonus" offers during the installation. I would think this is common practice these days since virtually EVERY program does this now. Can't think of the last time I tried to install something without it trying to install google chrome or some other BS I don't want.
