Would purchasing a third monitor be worth it?

Depends, if yes.. you'll need a better single GPU or crossfire. (please be specific on GPU choice).

I have two acer s230hl a bd at the moment, I picked one up last Friday but and dual is great for school multitasking but firing up a game on it is just a tease because of the bezels. I could pick up a third this Friday for about $180.

I would always play on a single most of the times but it would be more like "oh look what I can do thing" or something to do every now & then casually if you get that but based off the votes here, case closed.

I like wider displays for the extra peripheral vision. From first person shooters to racing games, it can be quite nice.

I'd recommend a card with 3GB VRAM or more and then SLI/CrossFire down the road if need be.

The 7970, 770 4 GB, 780, and TITAN would be good choices. Pick based on brand preference and budget.

You'd need substantially more GPU to power that setup unless you're fine with lower FPS. I would say cfx 7950s at least.

I do wish to upgrade as soon as the new consoles roll out. Maybe a 7970 or GTX 770? What say you?

The only reason why I'd go for a 3 monitor gaming setup would be so I could play simulators, but when the oculus rift comes out officially it'll be way better. Having two monitors is enough for me otherwise. I still game on one monitor and use the 2nd for a display to refer back to (like having a webpage open to the wiki for that game).
