What are some good gamepads?

Mostly for 2D games (Rogue Legacy, Rayman Origins, various... games which are for other platforms...), but also for some 3D games such as Batman Arkham Asylum/City.
How are the Logitech gamepads? I've heard mostly good things, but some negative reviews complain about the shoulder buttons and the joysticks.

D-Pad aside, can't go wrong with the Xbox360 controller. I'd say get one of those over a Logitech.

Play-test

controller preferences differ by individual as they do for mouse/keyboard and any input device.

Thing is, the D-Pad is very important for me

didn't they update the dpad for 360 controllers? get one of those, it's literally the same thing. you'll need the wireless adapter too, play n charge won't work

Why not use a Dualshock 3?

I like Dualshock, however they are quite expensive. If there aren't any better gamepads that are the same price or less, I might as well go with one.

I don't think you'll find a better gamepad for $40 or less, although I admit it's not my area of expertise.

I really like using the PSP-2000's DPAD for 2D games. It's not perfect but not bad either. If you have one; get FUSA on it and windows will detect it as a gamepad.

PS3 is my choice, although I already had 3 of those controllers sitting around so I didn't have to buy anything. I might still have went with that though, since IMO it's the pinnacle of controller design (minus the non-replaceable battery.)
