It's a logical fallacy to say that your current PC is as powerful as a next-gen

And quality 10/10 logic too

If I have something that's better than the console, in five years somehow it's going to degrade to below the console....even though neither changed

100/10

Let me know how well your GT 7800 and X2 AMD play Battlefield 4....even though nothing has changed since 2005.

My old Q6600 + 8800 GTS 512MB system still runs games much better than the 360/PS3 and I'm pretty sure it's going to keep going strong for the next couple years, way after these systems retire.

Q6600 might work for a little while, but we're already seeing games like Crysis 3 require DX11 only. 8800's time is passing. When next gen gets in full swing, I can see them dropping DX9 and maybe even DX10 altogether. I wouldnt say you're really good to go for the beginning of next gen unless you have a 400 or 5000 series GPU.

"Logical Fallacy" that current PCs aren't better than PS4/Xbone?

Someone obviously has no clue about logical arguments in general. Go to school, take a logic/ethics course, maybe read some Aristotle.

Some people spend $2000 on their rigs. Some people spend $200. PCs are so flexible you can run 5 copies of Crysis 3 at the same time or have a Rasberry PI with Linux that you use to write code or browse the web.

BendoHendo what you're saying is true but that is only because back in 2005 the xbox 360 wasn't that far behind a high end pc compared to how far the ps4 and xbox one are now. Also back in 2005 the focus on pc graphics wasn't to be able play games in 1080p and 60fps like it is now.

Another thing to consider as well is the general lack of OS overhead (or very minimal if that) and no software API's / drivers to get in the way.

Console games are optimized because developers can work directly to make the game run from low level hardware without a software overhead in the way. Generally in for high end PCs, they usually brute force through these API's.

Then there is the architectural differences (Power PC on the 360 and PS3) to the x86 instruction set that the typical gaming PC runs on.

the PS4 / XB1 use x86, so the difference will be all more noticeable since now on unified architecture developers can develop first on PC and then scale down to the consoles. PC gamers will benefit even more because of this.

Most PC games have been held back for 7 years due to pandering to 7 year old console hardware. Now that PS4 and XB1 are using off-the-shelf PC components. PC's getting lackluster "console" ports should non-issue for the next generation, that is of course devs decide to don't care and are lazy.

A fan is confident in the game they prefer being able to stand on its own merits.
A fanatic attacks the opposing game showing insecurity in the game they like.
