Welp, uTorrent now tries to install malware when you update it...

Well i don't use programs that allow people to steal Software.

You might not want to use your web browser either, it can be used to steal software also. Their are legal uses of torrent clients also just as there are legal uses of a web browser.

You're using a web browser program right now. If you knew were to look, you could steal software via said web browser.

Obviously the solution is for you to uninstall and never use a web browser.

I've seen a lot of freeware do that over the years.. there used to be this program called SUPER, which basically was a front end for a bunch of other freeware command line utilities, and it was pretty cool (it wasn't great, but it was free and all in one place)

Then all of a sudden it asked me to update, and after that it turned into a crapfest filled with spyware, adware, and had a bunch of the features crippled... even worse... once you installed the new one, it wouldn't let you go back to the old one.... you could install the old version but it wouldn't work and would just say "upgrade".

I think it tried to install opencandy... I was able to stop it at least.

Azureus turning into VUZE sucked pretty bad... I ditched uTorrent when it caught me offguard and I allowed the upgrade... I'm actually back to using an older version of Azureus (at least that doesn't prevent me from using the old version).

But, if I could get rid of all of the registry entries and reinstall the last good version of uTorrent, I would.

To not be a hypocrite, you can't be using a computer, basically.

They don't always tell you up front exactly what it is... and if the program was trustworthy in the past, you don't immediately get suspicious about a program update.

In fact that's exactly how opencandy got such a bad reputation... it was foisted on people without warning.
