How would I do a clean install of Windows 8 when the product key isn't there?

You should be able to recover it without booting into windows though, usually there is a recovery partition you will have to google your model type to see what the prompts are...

There is no sticker on the bottom of my ultrabook, the product key is apparently tied to the computer. It came with Windows 8 installed.

I have a Windows 8 Pro disc available to recover from and an external USB disc drive.

I'm planning on getting it to the point where it wants to install, then clicking "repair my computer." Will this work and activate using the product key it already has?

just delete all files and reinstall windows. search it. transfer your files to an external hdd or usb

I've already recovered it and it works fine. However, I want a bigger internal HDD.

If you have the UEFI key (which it sounds like you do), go for it. It will be no different than reformatting your current HDD.
