How far away are we from a MMO that will simulate real life?

I play Second Life every night for at least 5 hours.

I was joking, but wtf is this game...

Imagine a world where you can be anything you want and do anything you want.

Now understand that everyone else can be anything and do anything they want.

Welcome to the deepest level of Hell.

BF4's destruction is largely scripted. You want to see real destruction go play Red Faction Guerrilla.

This. Honestly i hope Volition would use Geomod in Next Saints Row that would be crazy. Anyway there's a awesome game is coming out on PC. If you loved destruction physics check this video out! Http://youtube.com/watch?v=8n8afMWq9Ok

Please spend the word about it!

I think it could already be done if you want to make a game that revolves around destruction entirely. However, usually it is something that when implemented obviously takes a back seat to other gameplay elements. And that is the way it should be imo.

Some people think a game like BF3 would be better if it had full destructibility. I am not so sure. I think it has to be limited in some way. When players get to tear down the entire structure of a map, I do not think it always makes for better gameplay.

I think the Red Faction series have always had the most destruction in their games. Now, destruction in that game is also pretty limited, and the extent varies from game to game in the series, but it is the first game I tried that did destruction on that scale. Where there are large environments and you can tear down every structure within it. Also it was non-scripted and the buildings can be destroyed in a lot of ways reflecting the exact impact and damage you did to them. This is very different from destruction in the Battlefield series entirely. In Battlefield it is like, if you explode something here, then this piece will come off etc. In that sense, battlefield does not have true destructibility at all. Never had.

This was one of my favorite things about Crysis.

The fact you could not only send bad guys flying across the map; but you could also punch down houses, trees, rocks and buildings.

Crysis got very close to it; but I would still say the original RF was best known for this.

I still remember when I first encountered a tank; and instead of taking it head on; I show holes around it with a rocket launcher and watched the chunk of ground it was on fall down the abyss.

You actually CAN tear down some structures in BF3, but they have to limit it of course for gameplay reason. I have been a victim of collapsing buildings many times and once scored an awesome multikill that way. If they make the environment too destructible, it will actually break the game. Imagine if you can actually destroy the floors in BF3's CQR maps.

I take it you never played BC2? Because BF3 "destruction" was laughably bad and scripted.

There was this cool BF4 video where they are in an underground parking structure, and they shoot a pillar with the grenade launcher and the ceiling, along with a tank, come crashing down. I couldn't stop laughing at how awesome it was.
