Think of how awesome gta would be if you could collapse skyscrapers with rocket launchers, or not come to a dead stop when hitting tiny trees at least. Are we close to ditching polygons entirely?

Uh...it has already reached?

Sure, you're limited to a (significant) portion of the city, but you can destroy pretty much EVERYTHING there and pretty much level the area.

They actually keep track of how much of the city you level.

Pretty far.

Like at least 10 years or more far.

Assuming some miracle discovery doesn't happen of course.

Computers advance very quickly, I wouldn't be surprised it was only five or six years off.
It'd take a lot of ram to keep track of all the breakable parts, which would have to be a lot if they want it to look realistic., combined with also keeping track of the inevitably large world and NPCs, and it's take a hecka lot of space.

If a game like that does come out it's probably be like Crysis was when it first released. [Some companies STILL use that to gauge the power of their computers I hear] but it's be a step.

Also how far are we from grass that's animated in real time? I think grass physics are quite unappreciated

I would say in Crysis 3 it's pretty much there.

BF4's destruction is largely scripted. You want to see real destruction go play Red Faction Guerrilla.

Scripted? You obviously never played BC2. Red Faction's destruction is too pathetic to even be put up in comparison to

RFG's destruction was far better than BC2's, where buildings sunk into the ground rather than actually collapsing around you.

How far away are we from a MMO that will simulate real life?

I play Second Life every night for at least 5 hours.

I was joking, but wtf is this game...

Imagine a world where you can be anything you want and do anything you want.

Now understand that everyone else can be anything and do anything they want.

Welcome to the deepest level of Hell.

What the hell are you talking about? BC2 was pretty much entirly scripted as well. Fire a tank shell at a wall it will make a hole. Put some C4 on the same wall next match it will make a hole the same size. Once enough holes are on a building it collapses.
