Is Fez any good?

I'm considering the bundle but I already own (and love) Trine 2 and FTL and the rest look pretty meh. Fez seems like it could sort of be fun, but also gave me a head ache while watching it and looked like it would probably get old after 2 minutes like VVVVVVVVV. Only other game I considered was Mark of the Ninja but it also looked like it would be more annoying than fun.

From what I've seen, Fez is awesome if you love puzzles that require you to jot down notes and/or collaborate with others on the internet for the answers.

If you're the type who would prefer to figure everything out yourself without putting in a lot of extra work then you'll probably find it's a mediocre platformer... but take all of this with the grain of salt that I have yet to play it myself and I've only seen the reviews of it.

I thought Fez was pretty mediocre. And the internet keeps saying not to support the guy who made it, so there's that.

Meh. Probably. I only partially pay attention to these things. Everyone's always like "Phil Fish is such a douche, don't support Fez!" I assumed he was a solo developer. Especially since the game didn't seem very complex from the little bit I played before I decided I didn't care about it.

The good thing about the Humble Bundle though is that you can get the game now without a cent going to him.

He was basically just insulted a lot of fanbases, statements he made:
Modern Japanese games all suck
Fez is a console game and PCs are for spreadsheets
He mocked people on the steam forum when the game was the number 1 seller for a whole hour or so (then it dropped off the charts)
and he also rage quit developing Fez 2 over some dumb argument.

I've played a bit of it. The game is a really creative throwback to retro platformers with a total game changer in that you can constantly rotate the world to get places you couldn't get to normally. It's a big Metroid style world to explore and unlock new places to see.

The controversy is that the creator of the game didn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Indie Game The Movie apparently was the start of his diarrhea of the mouth and the internet got a massive rage boner for the guy that wouldn't go down. After all the bs from him and the internet in general, he just said f*** it and left the industry because when you're dream job becomes a thankless job, you're better off doing something you can enjoy.
